Paediatric (Children) OT Services

My Family OT is passionate about helping children aged 0-16. We are a mobile service that sees your child at home, school, daycare or in your local community space.

We are a family-centred practice and believe we can help the most when we work in conjunction with the child’s families and key supports as they know their children best.

We strive to provide a holistic neurodiversity affirming service that is supported by evidence-based practice. Our OT’s continue to educate themselves on best practices and attend regular professional development and interest groups to further their practice.
We have a special interest in working with children who have neurodevelopmental challenges like Autism, ADHD, PDA, or if your child has an Acquired Brain Injury and or Anxiety.

Emotional Regulation and Sensory Processing

Every child processes and interprets sensory information differently. Sometimes it can impact on our ability to participate in our day-to-day activities.

Emotional Regulation is basically our ability to process and manage our stress and identify how we are feeling. This is something that we are not born being able to do and requires years of co-regulation from a trusted adult before they can self-regulate their emotions.

There are also some children who are "highly sensitive people" who feel emotions and sensations more deeply than others.

At My Family OT we will use standardised assessments (e.g. Sensory Profile 2) and clinical and parent observations to assess and then plan our treatment.

Home and School Skills

My Family OT can assist you with troubleshooting your child's toileting, sleep and some feeding issues.

Children need to be able to organise themselves and problem solve within their school and home life (which require your executive functioning skills and memory) at a developmentally appropriate level. My Family OT can help your child become independent in school and home activities

Fine Motor Skills and Handwriting

Children require fine motor skills to use their hands in a coordinated way to perform many important tasks including handwriting and using scissors.

Handwriting also requires your Visual Motor and Visual Perceptual skills, core and upper body strength.

Gross Motor Skills and Balance

Does your child have trouble jumping, hopping, throwing and catching. Balancing? OR do they always appear clumsy, bumping into things, uncoordinated. DO they have trouble learning new things? Children require good motor planning skills to use their bodies in a coordinated way.

Social Emotional Development and Social Skills

Regulation, Shared Attention, Engagement, Two-way communication, problem solving and symbolic play are the basic skills required in our social emotional development.

Play Skills

Play is one of the most important activities that children do. It is how they make sense of their world and how their skills and ideas are practiced and become meaningful.
